Liu Guo Poem: Song of More Sugar –

Liu Guo –

Song of More Sugar
Liu Guo

Reeds overspread the small island;
A shallow stream girds the cold sand.
After twenty years
I pass by the Southern Tower again.
How many days have passed since I tied my boat
Beneath the willow tree! But Mid-Autumn Day nears.
On broken rocks of Yellow Crane,
Do my old friends still remain?
The old land is drowned in sorrow new.
Even if I can buy laurel wine for you
And get afloat,
Could our youth renew?

注释:
The poet is grieved to see the old land drowned in new sorrow.

Liu Guo –

“Song of More Sugar” is a reminiscent piece composed by Liu over, a lyricist of the Southern Song Dynasty, who revisited his hometown. The lyricist had a gathering with his friends and famous scholars at Anyuan Lou twenty years ago, and revisited the place twenty years later, feeling the present and the past, so he wrote this lyric. The first section describes the scene of Anyuan Lou during the autumn season. The next section touches on the lamentation that things have changed. The main theme of the whole piece is “the old rivers and mountains are full of new sorrows”, which has deep feelings. The lyrics are simple and rich in meaning, and the mood is sorrowful.
