Su Shi: A Cloud-Burst at Youmei Hall ~ 《有美堂暴雨》 苏轼 with English Translations

A Cloud-Burst at Youmei Hall
Su Shi

A clap of thunder under the visitors’ feet,
Massed clouds around too dense to sweep away;
A hurricane on the skyline whips up the sea,
And rain pelts down across the River Zhe.
With the sparkle of wine brimming over a golden goblet,
The din of a thousand drumsticks on leather drums,
Heaven splashes the poet’s face with water to wake him,
And the mermaid’s cave pours forth its treasures of jade and jasper.
